After an advance played in the last day of February in which Ślepsk Malow Suwałki defeated PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów with the score of 3-2, Round 25 of 2023/24 Plusliga or, if you prefer, Round 10 of second leg, continued today with other three games and not without upsets.
The only team who earned three points was Barkom Każany Lwów who, led by top scorer Vasyl Tupchii (14 points with 2 aces, 1 block and 50% in attack) and MVP Luciano Palonsky (11 points with 1 ace and through 59% in attack), managed to defeat Indykpol AZS Olsztyn in just three sets (25:19, 25:17, 26:24), rejecting the rivals’ attempt to reopen the game in a hard-fought third set. For the visiting side, who accused the bad day of Moritz Karlitzek (only 7 points through 39% in attack) and Alan Souza (9 points with the same percentage in attack), Manuel Armoa top-scored with 15 points to his name through 58% in attack and 1 ace.
The other two games ended at tie break.
In the opener of the day, GKS Katowice wasted a 2-0 lead and suffered the comeback of super favorite Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, able to close the game with the score of 2-3 (25:21, 25:20, 20:25, 25:27, 9:15). Five players on the winning side left the court in double digit: Klemen Čebuli, top scorer among his teammates with 16 points to his name, 58% in attack and 2 winning blocks, MVP Jakub Kochanowski, author of an excellent performance scoring 14 points through 71% in attack, seasoned also with 3 winning blocks and 1 ace, Karol Kłos, who added 14 through 47% in attack and 4 5 winning blocks, and Stepen Boyer (11 points with 1 block and 50% in attack).
The major upset of the day, however, was Trefl Gdańsk who won over current Ligue A leaders Jastrzębski Węgiel with the score of 3-2 (20:25, 30:28, 28:26, 20:25, 15:13).
In front of 6200 volleyball fans, and after 166 minutes of play, Jan Franchi Martinez was named MVP of a very exciting game held at iconic Gdańsk’s Ergo Arena, with 20 points to his name, all in attack, through 59% in attack, well supported by Kewin Sasak, top scorer with 23 points including 1 ace and 3 winning blocks, the same number of points who tallied Jean Patry in Jastrzębski’s jersey, but with only 25% efficiency in attack.
However, after these three games,
there were not major changes in the standings.
Round 25 will continue tomorrow with other 3 games, including a big match between No.3 Projekt Warszawa and No.2 Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, while BOGDANKA LUK Lublin will wait Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and, in the evening, KGHM Cuprum Lubin will face PSG Stal Nysa.
