Turkey: Fenerbahçe and Halkbank win Game 1 of semifinals

2023/24 AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi kicked off its quarterfinals playoff stage today with both first duels of the series.

No.2 in regular season Fenerbahçe Parolapara narrowly defeated No.e3 Ziraat Bankkart with a score of 3-2, in an exciting match that saw the teams closely fought (25:22, 25:21, 22:25, 20:25, 15:12).
Despite the rivals’ 15 winning blocks (8 for Fenerbahçe), the hosts made the difference from the service line with 11 aces (to 5), and were led in score by Drazen Luburic,
top scorer of the match with 25 points (1 ace, 2 blocks and 48% in attack), and Dick Kooy, who also contributed with 22.
Matthew Anderson was the most prolific player on the losing side with 23 points.

Meanwhile, Halkbank delivered a dominant performance against Galatasaray HDI Sigorta, easily closing the match 3-0 (25:15, 25:19, 25:17), with an impressive 73% of team performance in attack and 18 points from top scorer Nimir Abdel Aziz (77% in attack and 1 ace), well supporter by an almost perfect Gordon Perry who added 13 through 81%.

Following these initial clashes, both Fenerbahçe Parolapara and Halkbank have taken a 1-0 lead in their respective series.
Games 2 are scheduled for April 5th.
If the series will extend to Game 3, both games will be held on April 8th. The first team to secure two wins advances to the final, while the losers will compete for third place.
