Italy: Italian Champions Perugia announced Yuki Ishikawa (and more from the club)

3 min read

Sir Safety Susa Perugia officially announced the signing of Japanese star Yuki Ishikawa for the next two seasons.
He will bolster the team’s strong lineup alongside already confirmed Kamil Semeniuk and Oleh Plotnytskyi, and reunites with head coach Angelo Lorenzetti, marking a nostalgic return since his first Italian stint under his guidance in Modena during the 2014/2015 season.

Yuki, a pivotal figure in Japanese national volleyball and not only, expressed his excitement about joining Perugia, a team he described as “perfect” for him.

Now 28 years old, he brings a wealth of experience and skill to Perugia, having played in Italy since he was 19.
With previous seasons in Latina, Siena, Padova, and Milano, his growth in the sport has been both rapid and impressive, earning him a spot among the world’s elite outside hitters.

His first words from Block Devils come from Japan: “Why Perugia? Because it’s a very strong team that won everything this year,” he says.
I thought that Perugia was the perfect team for me, I wanted to come here and I chose to wear the shirt of this great club.”

I arrive in a team that plays very well with great consistency and which all has very strong players in its squad. I played against them often and they always put us in difficulty. I meet Angelo Lorenzetti who is a great coach. When I arrived in Italy for the first time in Modena I was 19 years old and I had him as a coach. I am very happy to still play in his team, I would like to show him that I have grown a lot here in Italy since I was 19.

The Italian championship is always very difficult, winning is tough. It is certainly the best championship in the world, the level is very high, all the teams are strong and there are many great players.
The PalaBarton audience? As an opponent I have always struggled even if I managed to win a few times. There was always a warm audience and great support not only in Perugia but also away from home. From next season I will have them by my side, I am very happy, they will give me energy, confidence and emotion. I can’t wait to play next year at PalaBarton together with these fans. A message for them? We will see each other soon!

And what about Perugia?
Yuki Ishikawa will play again with middle-blocker Agustin Loser, together in Milano last season and, in addition to superstar Wilfredo Leon, Italian Champions said goodbye
to Tim Held (new outside hitter of Gioiella Prisma Taranto), middle-blocker Flavio Gualberto (next season with the jersey of Champions League winners Itas Trentino), setter Gregor Ropret, next season in Poland with Asseco Resovia Rzeszow, and libero Alessandro Toscani.

Confirmations include, in addition to two outside hitters mentioned above, middle-blockers Davide Candellaro, Sebastian Solè and Roberto Russo, starting diagonal Simone Giannelli and Wassim Ben Tara, and opposite Jesus Herrera.
