Italy: epic comeback of Civitanova! On the field of Verona, 1-2 in semifinal series!
3 min read
After a straight sets win in Game 1 on Easter Sunday, and a defeat in Civitanova in Game 2 with the best-of-five series leveled 1-1, the exciting 2025/26 Superlega CredemBanca semifinals series between Coppa Italia winners and No.2 in regular season Rana Verona and No.3 and last season’s runners up Cucine Lube Civitanova continued today in Verona, with an unexpected tie break victory, 2-3 (25:22, 28:26, 22:25, 19:25, 12:15), in favor of the visiting side, who won a long, hot, and nervous game in front of 5152 volleyball fans at Pala Agsm AIM.
Unexpected, after first two sets, won by Verona, above all the second one, in which the hosts canceled a 18-21 Civitanova’s lead, deleting several set points to close it 28-26!
And then Civitanova’s reaction, with a great win in third set, and an almost one-sided fourth set, until a very nervous tie break, in which the visiting side made the difference in hot moments of the match, led by a stellar Aleksandar Nikolov, who earned MVP honors with 22 points, only 33% in attack but decisive in key moments of the match, 6 of the winners’ 10 aces and 2 winning blocks. Eric Loeppky also contributed with 17 while Verona, on the other hand, suffered the 31 errors from the serve’s line and 9 in attack, too many to seal the victory.
Bad day for Noumory Keita, despite his 21 points, and captain Rok Mozic, with coach Fabio Soli who tried to put in the field Francesco Sani, but without a decisive impact. Darlan Souza also scored 21 points for the hosts through 60% in attack with 1 block and 2 aces, but he wasn’t enough.
Now the series will move to Civitanova, next Saturday, April 18, with Lube in a strong position to progress to Final.
Tomorrow Sir Susa Scai Perugia, who lead 2-0 the series with Gas Sales BluEnergy Piacenza, will have the chance to take a ticket for finals in front of their home fans at PalaBarton.
