VNL 2024: Week 1 is over – first win for USA and Germany. Slovenia, The Netherlands, Italy and Argentina ok

Week 1 of 2024 Volleyball Nations League is over in Antalya, Türkiye and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The United States’ young volleyball team ended this part of competition campaign in Antalya on a high note, securing their first win against hosts Türkiye.
Opposite Jake Hanes was decisive, scoring as many as 31 points, with 64% success rate and two aces, leading to a 3-1 (20:25, 25:22, 27:25, 25:21) victory. This win improved the USA’s record to 1-3, moving them up to 12th place in the standings, while Türkiye remains winless at 0-4.
On the same Pool, Slovenia down Poland in just three sets (25:20, 25:21, 25:18) while, in the evening, The Netherlands defeated Bulgaria with the score of 1-3 (16:25, 25:20, 13:25, 20:25).
In other VNL action, Italy defeated Brazil 2-3 (25:17, 15:25, 25:22, 17:25, 13:15) in Rio de Janeiro, with Alessandro Michieletto scoring 22 points to keep Italy unbeaten and to the top of the standings.
First win also for Germany, who secured a 0-3 (21:25, 20:25, 20:25) victory against Serbia, complicating Serbia’s Olympic qualification prospects while, in the evening, Argentina needed five sets to prevail over Iran, 2-3 (25:23, 29:31, 25:20, 20:25, 13:15).
