China, Belgium, Egypt and Ukraine advance to Semifinals in FIVB Men’s Challenger Cup 2024

China, Belgium, Egypt and Ukraine secured their spots in the semifinals of the FIVB Men’s Challenger Cup 2024 with decisive victories on Thursday and Friday in Linyi, China.
China triumphed over Mexico in straight sets, winning 3-0 (25:23, 25:17, 25:23), thanks to a great performance by outside hitter Zhang Jingyin, who scored 19 points, while opposite Wang Jingyi also contributed significantly with 13 points to his name.
Mexico’s top scorer was opposite Franky Milantony with 11 points.
On the same day, in a thrilling five-set match, Belgium defeated Croatia 3-2 (25:20, 25:18, 22:25, 15:25, 15:13), with outside hitter Seppe Rotty who led the winners with 24 points, while Ferre Reggers and Pierre Perrin added 18 and 15 points, respectively.
Croatia’s most prolific player was opposite Petar Đirlić, who scored 23 points.
Hosts China now will face Egypt, while Belgium will compete against Ukraine in the semifinals.
Egypt edged closer to VNL 2025 qualification with a 3-2 victory over Qatar (25:16, 23:25, 20:25, 15:13), led by Mohamed Issa who led them with 20 points, well supported by Mohamed Dola and Reda Haikal, who scored 17 and 16 points respectively. Qatar’s Youssef Oughlaf and Mohamed Waleed put up a strong fight, scoring 25 and 20 points.
Ukraine overcame a tough start to defeat Chile 3-1 (20:25, 25:23, 25:19, 25:19).
Viktor Shapoval was the top scorer for Ukraine with 14 points, while Yevhenii Kisiliuk and Oleksandr Koval also contributed 12 points each. Chile’s Vicente Parraguirre led all scorers with 16 points.
The tournament’s winners will secure a spot in the Volleyball Nations League 2025.
