Paris 2024: Italy, Slovenia and France to quarterfinals!USA down Germany at tie break

A game at 9am?
No problem for Italy, who opened third day of Paris 2024 volleyball tournament with an easy win against underdogs Egypt in Pool B, all in three sets (25:15, 25:16, 25:16), despite several errors from the service line (17!).
Daniele Lavia was the man of the match with 14 points through 47% in attack, seasoned by 1 block and 2 aces, the same number of opposite Yuri Romanó, and Alessandro Michieletto, who added 11 including 3 aces.
The result is a ticket for quarterfinals, thanks to a stellar Slovenia who, in Pool A, defeated Serbia in straight sets too, mostly thanks to 25 points from Tonček Stern. In fact, due this result, Italy, with 2 victories and 6 points), even in the worst possible case (finishing third in Pool B) they cannot be overtaken by the third-placed team in Pool A. In fact, the first and second-placed teams in each group, as well as the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals.
The lunchtime match was hard to digest for Germany, who, after their great debut against Japan in Pool C, recovered from two sets down against the United States but then lost at the tiebreak, partially 25:21, 25:17, 17:25, 20:25 and 15:11.
For Grozer and his teammates, however, this was a point that kept alive their ranking and their hopes of qualifying for the quarterfinals.
Top scorer of the match Moritz Karlitzek who left the court with 21 points, while Tj Defalco tallied 18 for the winners, who made the difference from the service line with 11 aces, compared to Germany’s 6, 4 only from middleblocker Taylor Averill (12 points today with also 3 winning blocks).
In the last game of the day, in Pool A, France literally destroyed Canada 3-0 (25:20, 25:17, 25:17), leaving the rivals to the bottom of the standings with 0 points after 2 games. 13 each for Jean Patry and Earvin Ngapeth for the winners, 12 for Stephen Maar and Arthur Szwarc for Canada.
