Paris 2024: Poland win big match against Brazil in Pool B. Japan down Argentina in Pool C

Paris 2024 volleyball tournament continued on last day of July with 2 games (and other 2 for women’s tournament, in the afternoon).
Already a show at 9am with the game between Poland and Brazil, in Pool B.
European Champions risked to collapse in front of a great Brazil who, however, with a 2-1 lead, failed to knock the rivals out losing 25-23, and then also at decisive fifth set, closed with 2 aces from Wilfredo Leon at 13-12, also top scorer of the game. Partially it was 22:25, 25:19, 19:25, 25:23 and 15:12.
Two points that are worth 5 points in the standings for Poland, now at -1 from Italy who yesterday easily defeated Egypt, even if the decisive clash for the top is scheduled on Saturday, August 3, starting at 5pm local time.
About Brazil, head coach Bernardinho in the previous hours had called the triathlete “Ironman” Thiago Vinhal to give a motivational speech to properly charge his team in view of this delicate challenge. The attempt was half successful, but the point snatched from Poland (together with the potential three against Egypt in the last challenge), could, and the conditional remains a must, still be worth them the ticket for quarterfinals among the best third-placed teams.

On the other match of the day, played at 1pm, Japan conquered a heavy three-points win against Argentina, 3-1 (25:16, 25:22, 18:25, 25:23), decisive to reach quarterfinals. The same Argentina, Bronze Medalists in Tokyo 2020 Olympics, who remain to the bottom of Pool C with 0 points.
Top scorer of the match Yuji Nishida, who left the court with 21 points and 5 aces, after a game that is worth 4 points in the standings and so the clash against USA, currently with 5 points, will be decisive to claim the ticket for next stage of the prestigious competition in best possible position.
However, if one of the two teams were to lose 3-0 or 3-1, Germany could take advantage, currently third with 3 points in the standings, and in their last match they’ll face Argentina….
