Asian Club Championship 2024: all results of Day 2 – first win for Jakarta

Day 2 of Asian Club Championship 2024 saw Jakarta Bhayangkara bounce back with a straight-set victory over Kuwait SC, and Shahdab Yazd secured another win against Pavlodar VC. Al-Rayyan defeated Kam Air, and Foolad Sirjan continued their dominance, also sweeping Gas Al Janoob in front of as well as 6000 volleyball fans at Shahediyeh Indoor Stadium.

In top games of the day, the hosts Shahdab Yazd down Pavlodar Volleyball Club from Kazakhstan with a 3-1 (22:25, 25:18, 25:17, 25:20). Despite the rivals were able to win first set, Shahdab replied with a well-deserved win to secure their second win in as many games of the competition, led by a great Morteza Sharifi, author of 20 points, while Maxim Michshenko put down 10 points in Pavlodar’s jersey.

Always in Pool A, Indonesia’s Jakarta Bhayangkara celebrated first success with a clean 3-0 (25:18, 25:20, 25:19) over Kuwait Sporting Club, led by Olympic Champions Earvin Ngapeth and Jean Patry who, together with Agil Angga, left the court with 13, 12 and 12 points, respectively.
Jakarta will Pavlodar Volleyball Club in a decisive game in Pool A to secure a coveted spot in quarterfinals.

In Pool B, Qatar’s Al-Rayyan Sports Club redeemed themselves after defeat in Day 1 against Iraq’s Gas Aljanoob, celebrating a four-sets win over Afganistan’s Kam Air, 3-1 (25:16, 23:25, 25:16, 25:19), led by Marcus Vinisius, top scorer among the winners with 19 points, while Naser Kohistani, top scorer of the day, tallied 23 points for Afganistan’s side.
Victory also for Iran’s Foolad Sirjan Iranian who, in last game of the day, secured an easy 3-0 (25:20, 25:16, 25:19) victory against compatriots Gas Al Janoob to stay to the top of Pool B.

The group stage will continue until Tuesday, September 10, with teams competing in a round-robin format.
Wednesday, September 11, is set as a rest day, with knockout stages beginning on September 12, leading to the grand finale on Sunday, September 15.
