Poland: match between PSG Stal Nysa and Asseco Resovia postponed. Winning debut for Bełchatów and newcomers Będzin
4 min read
Round 1 of 2024/25 Plusliga should have continued today with other three games.
However, the match between Asseco Resovia and PSG Stal Nysa, scheduled for 2.45pm Local Time, has been postponed due to severe weather conditions and flooding in the city of Nysa and its surrounding region. The request for postponement, submitted by PSG Stal Nysa, was accepted by Asseco Resovia and confirmed also by PlusLiga.
The visiting side has already arrived in Rzeszów, but due to the worsening flood situation in Nysa, which is escalating by the hour, they have requested a rescheduled date for their match.
As a result, in an official statement, Asseco Resovia expressed solidarity with their rivals, whose players and their families are directly affected by the floods.
One of the players’ homes has been flooded, and the safety of their families has become a top priority.
“Asseco Resovia fully supports PSG Stal Nysa in this difficult time. The safety and well-being of the players and their families are of utmost importance,” the club said.
And the match will now take place on October 30, 2024.
The clubs also expressed gratitude to the league authorities and TV broadcaster Polsat for their understanding and empathy during this challenging situation.
Fans, who have shown overwhelming support, have been thanked for their patience and solidarity.
Both teams hope the flood situation improves soon, allowing them to return to the court safely.
The day continued with two away victories: PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów needed five sets to win on the field of Indykpol AZS Olsztyn – 1-3 (29:27, 21:25, 22:25, 18:25) while, in the evening, newcomers Nowak-Mosty MKS Będzin made their perfect debut in Plusliga with a hard-fought straight sets win at GKS Katowice’s home – 0-3 (27:29, 19:25, 23:25).
Despite losing the opening set, PGE Skra Bełchatów, led by head coach Gheorghe Cretu, came back strong in front of more than 4000 volleyball fans at Hala Urania, dominating the next three sets to clinch the win, led by Amin Esmaeilnezhad who was named MVP for his good performance. He left the court as top scorer, with 19 points to his name including 1 ace and 44% in attack.
In another PlusLiga clash, MKS Będzin claimed a convincing straight sets victory over GKS Katowice, demonstrating superior composure during the decisive moments, securing a win and three valuable points to kick off their season.
Brandon Koppers, top scorer and MVP of the game, scored 16 points for the winners including 1 ace, 2 winning blocks and 48%, well supported by Damian Schultz who added 15 through 56% in attack, with 1 block and 2 aces.
And the other bad news of the day is that ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle has confirmed that captain Bartosz Kurek will be out of action following an eye injury sustained during the opening match of the new PlusLiga season against PGE Projekt Warszawa.
He suffered the injury in the first set, and his recovery will require a period of rest and constant ophthalmological supervision.
The club has not yet provided a timeline for his return to training and matches.
