Del Monte® Supercoppa 2024: they did it (again)! Perugia lift another trophy! Trento defeated at tie break

In a fiercely contested Gran Finale of Del Monte® Supercoppa 2024, Sir Susa Vim Perugia triumphed over Itas Trentino to claim their sixth Supercup in club’s history, winning 3-2 (25:18, 19:25, 15:25, 25:17, 15:9) in an amazing tie-break match. The victory, held at Florence’s Palazzo Wanny, marks Perugia’s third consecutive Supercup win, solidifying their dominance in Italian volleyball.
The final was a rollercoaster from the very start of the game. Trento, missing opposite Kamil Rychlicki due to an ankle injury in the semifinal against Vero Volley Monza, played yesterday evening, found a strong replacement in Gabi Garcia, who led his team with 24 points. Despite Trentino’s 18 blocks and a strong showing in the second and third sets, Perugia reacted with great determination, rallying to take the fourth set and overpowering their rivals also in decisive tie break with a clear 15-9 win.
Perugia’s Japanese superstar Yuki Ishikawa, was the man of the match, earning a well-deserved Del Monte® MVP award with 20 points, including several decisive plays that propelled his team to victory. He played a crucial role in both the semifinal and the final, leading Perugia’s offense with a 47% attack efficiency and two winning blocks.
However, Perugia’s overall performance was bolstered by a very strong team effort, finishing a hard-fought game with five aces, nine blocks, and a 50% attack success rate, in front of more than 3,800 fans packing the venue, with Perugia’s supporters, the Sirmaniaci, celebrating their team’s remarkable comeback after the comeback from 1-2 in set count.
