Italy: Piacenza open Round 2 with a straight sets win on the field of Monza!

After an exciting start of 2024/25 Superlega CredemBanca last week, Italian elite competition continued today with the advance of Round 2 between two Supercup semifinalists, Vero Volley Monza and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza.
The game ended in just three sets in favor of the visiting side, 0-3 (22:25, 24:26, 23:25), and this is second win in as many games for Piacenza, last week victorious against Valsa Group Modena in their opener.
After a very balanced start, Piacenza found two important breaks at 7-10 and 18-21, decisive to win first set, also thanks to two aces with the signature of Yuri Romanò and a slightly better efficiency in attack (59% to the hosts’ 50%), despite as many as 7 errors from the service line.
In second set Monza’s reaction, with 4 aces and 6 winning blocks, even if, ecentuallly, once again the players around head coach Anastasi managed to win, with Efe Mandiraci on the field instead Uros Kovacevic. The same happened in third set, with a better start from Monza, 8-4, but then the rivals’ comeback and the final 23-25 that closed set and game, with a block on top scorer Arthur Szwarc, who left the court with 15 points to his name including 3 aces.
For the winners, double digit for Stephen Maar and MVP Robertlandy Simon, who scored 12 points each in what was a very balanced game: 5 aces for both teams, 10 winning blocks to 9 in favor of Piacenza, 43% to 49% of team performance in attack, 52% to 50% positive reception.
