Italy: Round 5 is over! Perugia win big match vs. Trento and rise to the top! Verona, Piacenza, Civitanova and Modena ok

In a very nervous match, Milano initially took the lead but was overtaken by the rivals’ resilience, led once again by a stellar Noumory Keita, who left the court with 31 points to his name, including the one that closed the game and 3 aces, and earned the MVP title. Verona now holds 11 points in the standings.

Meanwhile, Cucine Lube Civitanova continued their unbeaten run at home with a 3-0 (25:14, 25:19, 25:19) win over Cisterna, featuring a great performance from top scorer and MVP Eric Loeppky, who scored 14 points (59% in attack, 1 ace and 3 winning blocks) and helped Civitanova secure third straight home victory.
Double digit also for Adis Lagumdzija , who also contributed with 13 while no player in Cisterna’s jersey reached a double digit. The hosts started with a stellar first set, in which they trampled over the rivals with 67% of team performance in attack, 3 aces to 0, blocks to 0 and 5 points from Loeppky. Something better for Cisterna in second set, above all in blocking, but the rivals are too strong and were able to close also the other two sets without major problems, also with 5 points from a recovered Aleksandar Nikolov.
Sonepar Padova and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza played the weekend’s most intense match, with Piacenza emerging victorious 2-3 (25:22, 22:25, 25:23, 28:30, 11:15) after five fiercely contested sets. Stephen Maar led the winners with a powerful performance, earning the MVP award in a game that pushed both teams to their limits and kept volleyball fans on the edge of their seats.
Valsa Group Modena literally dominated MINT Vero Volley Monza 3-0 (25:17, 25:21, 25:16), capitalizing on MVP Paul Buchegger’s 17-point game to secure the win.
In another thrilling face-off, in big match of Round 5, Itas Trentino fell in front of their home fans to Sir Susa Vim Perugia, 1-3 (25:19, 22:25, 24:26, 19:25), keeping their strong position in the league.
In a sold out ilT quotidiano Arena in Trento, in front of 4000 volleyball fans, Perugia celebrated their 5th success in a row in as many games played against a rival unbeaten so far, despite the absence of setter Simone Giannelli.
After losing first set 25-19, they reacted e closed the game in flur sets, with 42% efficiency in attack, 10 winning blocks and 9 aces, 4 only from Oleh Plotnytskyi, MVP of the game for second time in a row with 28 points to his name, 47% in attack and 3 winning blocks.
