France: Round 7 is over – 3 points for new leaders Tourcoing, Nice, Cannes and Chaumont. 2 for Sète
3 min read
After the advance played yesterday, in which Toulouse won on the field of Paris in just three sets, Round 7 of 2024/25 Marmara Spike League has been completed today with the other scheduled games.
In the big match for first place, as prior to this game Supercup winners Montpellier led the charts with 14 points, followed by Tourcoing, at -1, to celebrate a well-deserved win are the latter, and they did it in just three sets, 3-0 (25:21, 25:23, 28:26), in front of their home fans.
After almost 2 hours of play, Ignacio Luengas made the difference once again for Tourcoing, leaving the court with 20 points to his name through 57% in attack, 2 aces and 2 winning blocks, well supported by Pablo Koukartsev, who added 16.
Dimitar Dimitrov scored also 20 points for Montpellier, who slip to the third place in the standings with the same number of points of newcomers Cannes, who today celebrated another great win over powerhouse Tours, 3-0 (25:22, 25:17, 25:19) too.
In front of their home fans at Palais des Victoire, they literally trampled over the rivals, winning the game without major problems led by top scorer Reda Haikal, once again decisive with 17 points to his name through 60% in attack, 2 aces and 3 of his team’s 10 winning blocks, well supported by Timo Beriot and MVP Omar Biglino (82% in attack and 2 blocks), who also contributed with 11 each. If Cannes can celebrate a well-deserved second place with 4 victories in 6 games played as newcomers, a disastrous start for Tours, second-to-last with 4 points and only one victory, against last-placed Plessis-Robinson (2 points), who today earned a point after a 3-2 (25:18, 22:25, 16:25, 25:23, 15:12) defeat on the field of a Sète who struggled more than expected after the heavy stop suffered a week ago against the same Cannes. Hugo De Leon Guimarães left the court with 22 points to his name through 63% in attack, 2 aces and 1 block.
In a sold out venue due the presence of Olympic Gold Medalist Earvin Ngapeth, Nice celebrate a great 3-0 (25:18, 26:24, 25:18) success over his Poitiers, led by another good performance from German opposite Simon Hirsch, absolute top scorer of the game with 24 points to his name through 63% in attack, 2 winning blocks and 5 of his team’s 10 aces, but double digit also for Alexanros Raptis, who added 13 through 50% in attack and 3 aces. MVP of the game libero Mason Briggs, who suffered an ankle injury in warm-up even though he played this game from start to finish! Dusan Nikolic was the only player in double digit for Poitiers with 11 points, while his teammate Ngapeth has probably disappointed a little bit volleyball fans scoring 9 points with 2 aces but with only 29% in attack!

Straight sets win also for Chaumont who, after a poor start in the season, defeated titleholders Saint Nazaire by 3-0 (25:14, 26:24, 25:19), with 7 aces (4 only from top scorer Jacob Pasteur, 15 points for him at the end of the game).
With three wins, three losses and 10 points, Chaumont sit now at 8th place in the standings, with the same number of points of No.7 Toulouse and No.7 Sète.
