Challenge Cup: first leg of 16th finals started today. All results of Tuesday

16th Finals of 2024/25 CEV Challenge Cup started today with 9 games.
The day started with a hard-fought battle played in Hungary, more precisely at Tatabányai Multifunkcionális Csarnok, where the hosts MÁV Foxconn Székesfehérvar needed five sets to prevail over Austria’s UVC Holding Graz, 3-2 (22:25, 25:23, 20:25, 25:23, 15:13).
After 156 minutes of intense play, Redi Bakiri scored 26 points for the winners, including 2 aces, 1 block and 52% in attack, well supported by Marcell Pesti, who added 23 including 1 ace, 1 block and 49% in attack, the same number of points of Graz’s top scorer Arwin Kopschar (2 aces, 1 block and 49% in attack too). Benedikt Sablating and Johannes Kratz added 22 and 18, respectively, but they were not enough to clinch the game. Second leg in Austria next Wednesday, on November 20!
Other two games today ended at tie break: Volley Näfels from Switzerland prevailed in Slovakia against the hosts Rieker UJS Komárno with the score of 2-3 (29:31, 25:23, 25:15, 21:25, 11:15), despite the hosts’ 15 winning blocks (7 for the winners), and with 22 points from top scorer Mathias Corzo, while Spain’s Cisneros Alter Tenerife down WWK Volleys Herrsching from Germany by 3-2 (25:23, 20:25, 25:19, 16:25, 15:12), after 127 minutes of play.
All easy for Estonia’s Tartu Bigbank, who trampled over Karađorđe Topola from Serbia 3-0 (25:18, 25:19, 25:21) in front of their home fans, SK Ankara from Turkey, better known in world of volleyball as Spor Toto, who won in Bulgaria, on the field of Neftohimik Burgas with the same score, 0-3 (20:25, 24:26, 18:25), for Portugal’s Sporting CP Lisboa, who destroyed Kladno Volejbal cz from Czech Republic with the score of 3-0 (25:20, 25:21, 25:15) with 15 points from top scorer Edson Valencia (50% in attack and 3 of his team’s 8 aces), and for
Decospan VT Menen, who down VC Reshetylivka from Ukraine 0-3 (27:29, 17:25, 21:25), stuggling only in first set. Both games are scheduled in Belgium, at CC de Steiger Vauban Menen, and second leg will be already tomorrow!
The last two games played today featured Spain’s CV Melilla who needed four sets to prevail over Fonte Bastardo Azores from Portugal, 3-1 (25:20, 22:25, 25:19, 26:24), with 18 points from top scorer Federico Martina (all in attack, through 53%), while Nova Tech Lycurgus Groningen from The Netherlands won in Luxembourg against the hosts VC Lorentzweiler also with the score of 1-3 (19:25, 25:22, 27:29, 22:25).
