Poland: Round 14 continues – ZAKSA down Resovia in a Plusliga classic. Jastrzębski back to the top!

Round 14 of 2024/25 Plusliga continued today with other two games, and with another change to the top of the standings after just 24 hours, following a straight sets win over PSG Stal Nysa from last season’s runners up Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie.
However, titleholders Jastrzębski Węgiel won on the field of BOGDANKA LUK Lublin with the same result, 0-3 (30:32, 23:25, 16:25), to regain their leadership, with three more points to their closest pursuers.
Despite a close fight in the first two sets (30:32, 23:25), the visitors took control in the third (16-25). Jastrzębski’s superiority in attack, serve, and block (1-5 aces, 3-9 blocks) made the difference, while top performers included Kewin Sasak (19 points) and Wilfredo Leon (13) for Lublin, while Jastrzębski’s Timothee Carle delivered an MVP-winning performance with 14/18 attacks, 78% efficiency, 1 ace and 2 blocks.
Asseco Resovia fought hard but fell 2-3 to ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in an intense tie-break clash (11:25, 28:26, 20:25, 31:29, 18:20).
After a one-sided first set, Resovia rallied to create a spectacular contest, ultimately falling short. Either way, ZAKSA’s win secured their spot in the Polish Cup quarterfinals.
Standout players for Resovia included Stephen Boyer with 25 points to his name and Bartosz Bednorz who added 20, while ZAKSA’s Bartosz Kurek (21) and Igor Grobelny (17) were the most prolific players for the winners. The MVP title went to setter Marcin Janusz.
Round 14 will continue tomorrow with other two games: Barkom Każany Lwów will welcome Nowak-Mosty MKS Będzin, while Indykpol AZS Olsztyn will face Cuprum Stilon Gorzów.
