Champions League: Projekt Warszawa, Mint Vero Volley Monza and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie open third week with victories

Third week of 2024/25 CEV Champions League started today with first three scheduled games.
In Pool A, perfect score for Poland’s PGE Projekt Warszawa, who down Berlin Recycling Volleys with a clean 3-0 (25:22, 25:21, 25:22) and without major problems, with the only exception of third set in which the team from Germany wasted a 19-21 lead. However, the hosts performed a comeback to avoid pushing the game to fourth set.
In front of more than 3500 home fans in country’s capital, German opposite Linus Weber top-scored the match and the winners with 20 points to his name against his fellow countrymen from Berlin, with 59% in attack, 3 of his team’s 11 winning blocks and 4 of Warszawa’s 6 aces. Double digit also for Arthur Szalpuk, who also contributed with 11 with 1 ace, 2 blocks and 67% in attack and Jakub Kochanowski, who added 10 through 75% in attack and 4 blocks, while Jake Hanes scored 18 points for Berlin.
In Pool B, italian side Mint Vero Volley Monza needed five sets to prevail in Germany, mon the field of Helios Grizzlys Giesen, 2-3 (16:25, 25:22, 22:25, 25:21, 9:15). Luka Marttila led the winners with 20 points to his name through 59% in attack and 3 of his team’s 4 aces, closely followed by Arthur Szwarc and Taylor Averill, who also contributed with 18 and 16, respectively, including 4 winning blocks for the latter.
Better in blocking, with 13 points from this element compared to the winners’8, Ethan Champlin top-scored the hosts leaving the court with 18 points.
Away win, at tie break too, also for Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie from Poland on the field of Allianz Milano, 2-3 (25:17, 10:25, 24:26, 25:19, 12:15). Ferre Reggers was almost unstoppable, tallying as many as 33 points for Milano including 3 of his team’s 10 aces (5 for the winners), 3 blocks and 68% in attack, but he wasn’t enough. Behind him in double digit only Yacine Louati with 13 points but with only 36% in attack. MVP Aaron Russell top-scored the winners with 19 points to his name including 1 ace, 2 blocks and 52% in attack. Double digit also for Bartosz Kwolek, Karol Butryn and Mateusz Bieniek, who added 13, 11 and 10 points respectively.
Third week of Champions League will complete today.
