Poland: Round 17 continues – 3 points for leaders Jastrzębski Węgiel, Indykpol AZS Olsztyn and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie (temporarily at 2nd place)

Round 17 of 2024/25 Plusliga or, if you prefer, Round 2 of second leg, continued today with other three games.
Current leaders and titleholders Jastrzębski Węgiel outplay Asseco Resovia Rzeszów delivering a commanding 0-3 (21:25, 22:25, 23:25) victory in one of the most anticipated matches as a PlusLiga big classic. Despite Resovia’s spirited effort, the visitors dominated in crucial moments of the clash, with Resovia struggling without star player Bartosz Bednorz, sidelined due to injury, and their 25 unforced errors proved costly. Łukasz Kaczmarek led the winners with 15 points, while Jakub Bucki scored 14 for the hosts.
The MVP title went to setter Benjamin Toniutti. With this win, Jastrzębski remains the league leader with 44 points, bouncing back from their shock defeat to Barkom Każany Lwów last week.
Indykpol AZS Olsztyn showed resilience in a dramatic 3-1 (22:25, 25:16, 25:18, 31:29) win against Ślepsk Malow Suwałki, capped by an electrifying fourth set that ended 31-29. Nicolas Szerszeń was the winners’ hero with his 21 points, including six aces, earning him MVP honors.
Olsztyn’s 7th win of the season lifts them to 9th place, just outside the playoff zone, with 24 points. Meanwhile, Suwałki’s Bartosz Filipiak shone with 25 points, but it wasn’t enough to avoid his team’s narrow loss.
In the evening, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie overcame Barkom Każany Lwów 1-3 (26:28, 24:26, 25:23, 19:25), led by Bartosz Kwolek who left the court with 18 points to his name, while Vasyl Tupchii matched his efforts for the hosts.
Despite their tenacity, Barkom couldn’t pull off an upset, and Zawiercie stayed steady in the league’s upper ranks.
Round 17 will close tomorrow with last three scheduled games: Trefl Gdańsk will welcome BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, PGE Projekt Warszawa will face Nowak-Mosty MKS Będzin while, in the evening, PSG Stal Nysa will welcome GKS Katowice.
