CEV Cup: four sets away win for Trentino, Tours and Resovia in first leg of playoffs

Playoffs of 2024/25 CEV Cup started today with three games all ended in four sets in favor of visiting side!
The day started at Sports Hall Dumitru Popescu Colibasi, Romania, where the hosts CSM Corona Brasov suffered a 1-3 (25:21, 17:25, 21:25, 23:25) defeat against Italian powerhouse Trentino Itas, despite winning first set and 20 points from Andrey Melnikov, top scorer of the match with 46% in attack, 2 aces and 1 block. However, the visiting side made the difference above all in blocking, scoring 13 points from this element (6 for Brasov), while Kamil Rychlicki and Alessandro Michieletto led the charge with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Double digit also for Daniele Lavia, Flavio Gualberto and Bela Bartha, who added 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Something similar happened in Cyprus, where the hosts Pafiakos Pafos won first set but then succumbed to super favorite Asseco Resovia Rzeszow from Poland, also with the score of 1-3 (25:22, 12:25, 23:25, 21:25). Decisive Stephen Boyer, top scorer of the match with 23 points including 3 aces, 1 block and 63% in attack, and Lukas Vasina, who also contributed with 20 including 1 ace, 1 block and 72% in attack. Nikolaos Eleftheriou was the most prolific player for Pafos with 21 points.
The other team who took first step towards next stage of the competition is French powerhouse Tours VB, who won with the score of 1-3 (19:25, 21:25, 25:23, 22:25) on the field of Switzerland’s Volley Amriswil, with 25 points from Ryan Sclater, absolute top scorer of the match with 51% in attack, 1 block and 1 ace.
Tomorrow Spain’s Guaguas Las Palmas will welcome Ziraat Bank Ankara from Turkey in last scheduled game of first leg.
