Challenge Cup: Lublin, Civitanova and Sporting CP take first step towards semifinals

Quarterfinals of 2024/25 CEV Challenge Cup started today with first three games, in which 3 teams take first step towards semifinals, all celebrating away victories.
At Pabellon Javier Ortiz Imbroda in Melilla, Spain, Bogdanka LUK Lublin from Poland down the hosts CV Melilla with the score of 0-3 (19:25, 23:25, 21:25) without major problems, led in score by Aleks Grozdanov, top scorer of the match with 15 points through 69% in attack, 3 aces and 3 blocks, and Wilfredo Leon, who also contributed with 11, while Federico Martina top-scored the hosts with 14 points.
Sporting CP Lisboa from Portugal did the same in Belgium, on the field of
Decospan VT Menen, easily winning the game also in straight sets, 0-3 (18:25, 21:25, 21:25), dominating the game above all from the service line with 13 aces to 5, and with Edson Valencia Gonzalez who led the charge with 22 points including 4 aces and an impressive 75% in attack.
Close the picture Italy’s Cucine Lube Civitanova, who needed four sets to prevail in The Netherlands on the field of Nova Tech Lycurgus Groningen, 1-3 (21:25, 25:23, 18:25, 27:29). After almost 2 hours of play, and without bomber Adis Lagumdzija, on the bench, his backup Petar Dirlic left the court as top scorer with 21 points through 61% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block, closely
followed by Aleksandar Nikolov who added 20 (53% in attack, 2 blocks and 2 aces).
These three teams needed two sets to progress to semifinals, while tomorrow Greece’s PAOK Thessaloniki will welcome SK Ankara from Turkey in last game of Quarterfinals First Leg.
