Italy: Perugia first finalist! Piacenza defeated in straight sets in decisive Game 3 at PalaBarton

After a Game 1 won in four sets, and a victory with the same result in Piacenza last Thursday and the resulting 2-0 lead in best-of-five 2025/26 Superlega CredemBanca semifinal series, Perugia claimed first ticket for Final after an amazing 3-0 (27:25, 25:21, 25:15) home win in decisive Game 3 in front of their home fans in a full-packed BalaBarton Energy.
First set dominated by Piacenza, at least until decisive points, when an ace from Oleh Plotnitskyi that is worth the 19-20, and a fatal error from Paolo Porro marked the 20-20. Piacenza take the lead again 20-23, with Josè Gutierrez who put down the ball of 21-24, but an error from the same Gutierrez, revealed by video check, give to Perugia the 24-24. An ace from Semeniuk close first set 27-25, the most exciting of the game, as Perugia then take the control by winning the second one 25-21 and the showing an amazing performance in third one, that started balanced until an impressive serve run from Simone Giannelli, and a series of powerful play that closed the contest with a one-sided 25-15.
The victory keeps Perugia unbeaten in the playoff stage and on track for a third league title.
Wassim Ben Tara led the winners with 13 points to his name, well supported by Oleh Plotnytskyi who added 12, Kamil Semeniuk and MVP Sebastián Solé (88% in attack and 4 blocks), with 11 each.
Piacenza exit the competition despite a standout effort from a perfect Robertlandy Simon, who topped all scorers with 14 points through 100% in attack (10/10), with 3 blocks and 1 ace.
The result also confirms Verona’s qualification for the 2026/27 CEV Champions League, while Piacenza’s European fate will depend on the outcome of the remaining semifinal.
Now Perugia will wait for their rivals in Final and in fact, on Saturday, April 18, Cucine Lube Civitanova will welcome Rana Verona with the chance to close the series too, boasting a 2-1 lead after an epic comeback celebrated yesterday, in Verona.
