2 min read
After eliminating Itas Trentino at tie break in semifinal played yesterday, Cucine Lube Civitanova clinch their eighth Coppa Italia title in an exciting five-set showdown against Rana Verona, who yesterday unexpectedly defeated super favorite Sir Susa Vim Perugia also at tie break.
This marks today’s winners 12th appearance in the final!
Civitanova started the game in an almost perfect way, with Mattia Bottolo and Eric Loeppky leading the charge, confidently taking the first two sets. However, Rana Verona wasn’t going down without a fight and, led by an exceptional performance of Noumory Keita, who racked up a game-high an impressive 30 points through 53% in attack and 2 aces), staged a stunning comeback to force a decisive fifth set.
Despite their resilience, Lube kept their composure in the final set and, also thanks to two early errors from Verona, they enjoy the momentum they needed to seal a well-deserved victory.
The resilience of Civitanova played a crucial role, with valuable performances from Eric Loeppky, who left the court with 17 points to his name through 50% in attack, and Alex Nikolov, who added 16 points through 62% attack and several decisive points throughout the game.
Moreover, head Coach Giampaolo Medei strategically utilized his bench, ensuring that 11 players contributed to the win, including Marko Podraščanin, who played a key role too bringing stability and experience in the final moments of the clash.
On the other side of the net, although Noumory Keita was almost unstoppable, Verona struggled with the underwhelming performance of Rok Možič, who left the court with 13 points and only 34% in attack, absolutely below his standards.
