Poland: Barkom close Round 22 with a very important win over Częstochowa

In a game that closed Round 22 of 2024/25 Plusliga or, if you prefer, Round 7 of second leg, Barkom Każany Lwów secured a surprise 3-1 (23:25, 25:20, 25:23, 25:21) victory over Steam Hemarpol Norwid Częstochowa.
Fighting to avoid relegation, the team from Lviv overcame the sixth-placed rivals, earning three very important points and narrowing the gap to PSG Stal Nysa, defeated on Friday against Trefl Gdańsk at tie break, to just three points.
Barkom’s strong blocking game (15–7) proved to be decisive, while MVP Vasyl Tupchii led the charge with 23 points through 48% in attack, well supported by Ilia Kovalov and Mart Tammearu, who added 17 each, and Rune Fasteland with 10. On the other side of the net Milad Ebadipour scored an impressive 27 points supported by Patrik Indra’s 16 and Bartłomiej Lipiński’s 10, but they weren’t enough.
Interestingly, Barkom has shown a knack for upsetting higher-ranked teams this season, previously defeating Jastrzębski Węgiel and Asseco Resovia. However, despite their latest win, they remain in 14th place, still within the relegation zone together with Nowak-Mosty MKS Będzin and last-placed GKS Katowice.
