Italy: Trento and Cisterna open Round 20 with victories

Round 20 of 2024/25 Superlega CredemBanca or, if you prefer, Round 9 of second leg, started today with two advances: Itas Trentino sweep Mint Vero Volley Monza in straight sets, while Cisterna Volley claimed a thrilling five-set victory over Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina.
Predictions respected in first one, in which Itas Trentino trampled over last-placed Vero Volley Monza celebrating a dominant 0-3 (20:25, 21:25, 15:25) sweep.
Monza’s struggles continued despite the roar of nearly 3,000 home fans, as the rivals’ powerful attack and solid defense proved too much to handle. Brazilian middle blocker Flavio Resende Gualberto was named MVP of the match with 11 points to his name, helping Trento secure a quick and well-deserved win, while Kamil Rychlicki and Daniele Lavia also contributed with 15 each and Alessandro Michieletto with 12. Meanwhile, Cisterna Volley pulled off another exciting five-set victory, 3-2 (25:23, 21:25, 25:16, 26:28, 15:10), marking their fourth consecutive win at tie-break.
French opposite Theo Faure shined with 21 points to his name also earning MVP award, while Petkovic led Grottazzolina with a match-high 28 points. In the decisive fifth set, Efe Bayram delivered the decisive points to seal the victory in a direct clash to claim playoffs ticket.
At 7th place, in fact, they boast 23 points, +1 from No.8 Valsa Group Modena, who will play tomorrow on the field of Sonepar Padova, at 10th place with 15 points closely followed by Gioiella Prisma Taranto, who will play on the field of Cucine Lube Civitanova, and last placed Vero Volley Monza, with 13. At 9th place with 18 points Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina boast, keeping their playoffs’ dreams alive.
