3 min read
Quarterfinals of 2024/25 Powerfusion VL started today with first three games.
Absolute regular season leaders as well as defending champions and ĆVV Cup winners HYPO TIROL volleyball team leveled their role as favorites winning their first best-of-five series against No.8 TJ Sokol V/Post SV Vienna, 3-0 (25:17, 25:14, 25:22). Top scorers in the USI hall were Kyle Hobus with 13 points, well supported by Nicolai Grabmüller who added 10 and Niklas Kronthaler with 7, while Boris Nikolic was the only player in double digit for the team from country’s capital with 13 points. Unfortunately, for the still undefeated team from Innsbruck, this is the last season in the top division, as Manager Hannes Kronthaler announced on Wednesday that the professional operations came into an end!
Predictions and field advantage respected also in the other two clashed played today, with No.3 in regular season SK Zadruga Aich/Dob who also had a good lead in their playoffs campaign by beating No.6 Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel 3-1 (21:25, 25:21, 25:20, 25:21) in their JUFA Arena Bleiburg, in what was the fourth win of the season for the Carinthians over today’s rivals! They did it despite the injury of Cuban bomber Carlos Charles Santana, due a broken finger, and the absence of Sebastian Sablatnig had to sit out due to illness.
Top scorers of the day were Vitor Yamamoto, who led the charge with 21 points, closely followed by Noel Krassnig who added 20, while Paul Nusterer scored 15 points on the other side of the net.
“I’m not happy at all today. The absences must not be an excuse, as we can and must play better. Waldviertel was better for a long time. It was only from the third set onwards that we played as we can,” said Aich/Dob sports director Martin Micheu.
Predictions respected also in last game played today, with No.2 TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg, as well as Last season’s runners-up prevailed in the duel against No.7 VCA Amstetten NĆ also in four sets, 3-1 (25:15, 28:30, 25:22, 25:19).
