Mevza League: ACH Volley Ljubljana and HAOK Mladost Zagreb secure final ticket with dominant victories

Semifinals of 2024/25 MEVZA League were played today at Dom Odbojke Bojan Stranić in Zagreb, Croatia, with ACH Volley Ljubljana and the hosts HAOK Mladost securing convincing 3-0 victories in their respective games.
In an all-Slovenian clash, the team from country’s capital, leaders of main round defeated No.4 i-Vent Maribor (25:22, 25:23, 27:25). The defending champions showcased their dominance, controlling the match despite a determined effort from the rivals.
Coach Matjaž Hafner praised his team’s resilience, saying they must stay focused for the final.
In second semifinal HAOK Mladost Zagreb, second in main round, made quick work of Austria’s No.3 SK Zadruga Aich/Dob, winning (25:17, 25:14, 25:15) after just 71 minutes of play! The Croatian champions dominated in attack and blocking, with Jovović leading the scoreboard with 11 points. Coach
Radovan Gačić expressed confidence ahead of the final, acknowledging ACH Volley as favorites but remaining optimistic about an upset.
“We did exactly what we needed to do. We knew we were up against an excellent team with a strong serve, but we managed to handle it with great reception throughout the match. Our side-out game was on point, we started serving well, and then our block came to life, which was fantastic. That led us to a well-deserved victory. In the final against Ljubljana, who are the absolute favorites, we can play completely relaxed, and in that mindset, it wouldn’t be impossible to get our hands on the trophy“, he said.
The MEVZA final is set for tomorrow, Thursday March 6, 2025, starting from 17:30 CET, with HAOK Mladost Zagreb and ACH Volley Ljubljana battling for the title.
At 12.30, Maribor and Aich/Dob will face for bronze.
