France: Quarterfinals started today! Cannes stun Montpellier. Chaumont, Tours and Tourcoing ok
3 min read
Quarterfinals of 2024/25 MARMARA Spike League started today with Games 1 of best-of-five series, and not without upsets!
The day started with the hard-fought tie break win of No.2 in regular season Chaumont, who struggled more than expected against a very combative Toulouse, winning their first home game with the score of 3-2 (25:19, 20:25, 23:25, 32:30, 16:14).
Mathis Henno led the charge with as many as 29 points to his name including 3 aces, 3 blocks, 62% in attack and MVP honors, while Nathan Feral scored 24 points for Toulouse, well supported by Noa Duflos Rossi’s 22.
However, the sensation of the day is the away win of No.8 in regular season Cannes over an unrecognizable Montpellier, in a game that ended in just three sets, 0-3 (22:25, 22:25, 18:25)! Better in all elements, the winners were led in score by Timo Beriot and Jacob Ekman, who scored 17 and 12 points respectively, dominating the game from start to finish.
Straight sets win also for No.4 Tours over No.5 Nice, 3-0 (25:19, 25:21, 25:21), a game won without major problems.
Ryan Sclater, top scorer of the game
with 16 points to his name through 57% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block, and Alexandre Strehlau with 14 including 1 ace, 1 block and the same percentage of attack efficiency, led the charge, while Simon Hirsh was the only player in double digit for Nice, who struggled to find their rhythm from the very beginning of the match.
Close the picture the hard-fought 3-1 (25:23, 27:29, 25:21, 27:25) win of No.3 Tourcoing over sixth-placed in regular season Poitiers, after more than 2 hours of play and with 25 points from Pablo Koukartsev.
Nik Mujanovic, after a great season with Paris’jersey, scored 28 points for Poitiers but he wasn’t enough.
Games 2 on Sunday.
