Italy sweep a not-existent Poland to reach Bulgaria in 2025 World Championship for Gold!

After a great win of Bulgaria against Czech Republic to reach a well-deserved World Championship final after 55 year at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Italy sweep Poland with a straight-sets victory 3–0 (25:21, 25:22, 25:23) to reach them in Gold Medal match of 2025 FIVB World Championship.

The match lacked rhythm and good plays at times, with both teams struggling with unforced errors, above all European Champions Poland, unbeaten so far, who played far below expectations, but the reigning champions held their nerve to close the match in just three sets.

Yuri Romanò emerged as the match’s top scorer with 15 points, well supported by Alessandro Michieletto’s 12.
Francesco Sani made a decisive impact late in the second set, delivering crucial serves that turned momentum in the winners’ favor.

Poland’s attack was led by Wilfredo Leon, who scored 14 points. Kewin Sasak with 9 and Kamil Semeniuk only with 7 added a modest support, but the they couldn’t find solutions in what was probably their worst game in recent year.

“We played a crazy game – really good, really strong! We believed we would win, but not like this, for sure. We are very happy, but it’s not finished. Now we’ll try to rest a bit and then tomorrow there is another great game,” said Yuri Romanó after the game. “In our last three games we had a great mentality and this is the result. We stay there also when we are behind in the points, with a strong mentality.”

“For sure, the situation now is not easy, because we lost the possibility to win the gold medal at a World Championship, but we still have a chance to win a medal. So, it is important for us to go back, try to rest our minds and play our best volleyball tomorrow to grab the medal. A medal is a medal and it’s always nice to win something,” said Poland’s outside hitter Kamil Semeniuk. “Obviously, Italy played a great game tonight. So, congratulations to them for playing amazingly! We had some chances, but we didn’t use them.”

Italy now moves on to face Bulgaria in Sunday’s gold-medal match, while Poland will battle the Czech Republic for bronze.
