Italy: Trento sweep Cisterna and Perugia triumph over Monza in games that closed Round 1 of 2025/26 season

2025/26 SuperLega Credem Banca Round 1 concluded today with a strong statement from super favorites Itas Trentino and Sir Susa Scai Perugia, both securing convincing wins in their seasonal debut, and both on the road.
In Cisterna, the reigning champions Trento showed all their class, sweeping the hosts Cisterna Volley with a clean 3-0 (25:21, 25:18, 25:19).
Although the absence of still injured star Daniele Lavia, the winners looked sharp and confident, with Alessandro Michieletto who led the charge with 15 points, closely followed by Theo Faure, one of two former Cisterna players in Trento’s lineup, with 14 points.
Young Andrea Giani, born in 2007, made his debut in the third set scoring two points including an ace.
Cisterna, despite the field advantage, couldn’t keep up with the rivals’ rhythm, with Filippo Lanza and Tommaso Guzzo both in double digit with 10 points but found little support against the defending champions’ organized defense and effective attack and serving.
In Monza, powerhouse Perugia opened their season with a 3-1 win over the hosts Vero Volley Monza (25:22, 16:25, 23:25, 19:25).
After losing first set, the team under the command of head coach Angelo Lorenzetti relied on Wassim Ben Tara and Yuki Ishikawa, who scored 19 and 18 points respectively, to take control on the next three sets. Monza, without German star Erik Rohrs, battled hard with Krisztian Padar and Luka Marttila, who scored 14 and 12 points respectively, but it wasn’t enough to stop the super favorite Umbrian side.
