Russia: Georghe Cretu no longer Belogorie Belgorod’s Head Coach for personal reasons

2 min read

Romanian expert Georghe Cretu has announced his resignation as head coach of Russian powerhouse Belogorie Belgorod, ending his contract earlier than planned due to personal reasons.

Dear fans, I’m leaving the club for personal reasons that I’d prefer to keep private,” he said in an emotional message to supporters. “I’m grateful to the team and the management for the opportunity, but sometimes life circumstances are beyond our control. This team has great potential, and I wish them success in the future.

Under his leadership, the club reached the Final Four of the 80th Victory Cup, claiming bronze medals, and played three rounds in the Russian Championship, winning two of them, at tie break against Yenisei Krasnoyarsk and 3-0 against Yaroslavl.

Club director Sergey Tetyukhin commented on the news, calling it unexpected: “We’re shocked. We’ll do our best to process and adapt to this situation. It’s an experience for everyone. Sergey Baranov will take over as acting head coach for the remainder of the season.
