Poland: Barkom stun Warszawa in advance of Round 5. Gdańsk down Gorzów at tie break

Fragmented Round 5 of 2025/26 Plusliga started today with first two games.
Barkom Każany Lwów delivered a stunning performance, defeating PGE Projekt Warszawa in just three sets in Elbląg, partially 25:23, 25:23 and 26:24, controlling the match with a very good play and calm under pressure, winning each set with the minimum gap.
The team from country’s capital, who started the season with three dominant successes, have now dropped two matches in a row without taking a single set!
Despite early leads, a collection of errors in decisive moments cost them dearly. Mousse Gueye, who left the court with 9 points, 2 aces and 3 blocks closed the match with two aces, while Ilia Kowalow with his 16 pts, 3 aces and 1 block earned MVP honors, and Lorenzo Pope also contributed with 13 with 1 block and 1 ace.
For Warszawa, the top scorers were Linus Weber with 11 points and Kevin Tillie with 10. The team from Lwów was a little more effective in attack (52% to 51%, 42 pts to 37 pts), better from the serve line (7 aces to 3) but committed more errors overall (24 compared to the rivals’ 22).
In the evening, Energa Trefl Gdańsk down Cuprum Stilon Gorzów after a thrilling 3-2 (25:21, 21:25, 23:25, 25:21, 18:16).
Round 5 will continue tomorrow with Ślepsk Malow Suwałki who will welcome Indykpol AZS Olsztyn while, in the evening, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will face BOGDANKA LUK Lublin in an advance of Round 13.
