Greece: Olympiacos part ways with head coach Andrea Gardini
2 min read
Greek powerhouse Olympiacos Piraeus decided to part way from Italian expert Andrea Gardini, who joined the team for the 2024/25 season and coached several top European clubs including Bełchatów, Jastrzębski Węgiel, Piacenza, ZAKSA, and Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, after a shaky start to the season.
The two sides met earlier today in a positive and open discussion, reviewing the team’s poor results, including an unexpected 3–2 loss to Kalamata as well as elimination from 2025/26 CEV Champions League, and agreed it was time for a change.
Olympiacos has already lost two of its first three league matches and was surprisingly eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers by Spain’s Guaguas Las Palmas.
Assistant coach Antonis Vourderis will take over on an interim basis and is expected to lead the team, which has won the Greek league 32 times, in the upcoming match against Foinikas Syros.
The search for a new head coach is already underway, with the club reportedly targeting another foreign option.
