CEV Cup: other 5 teams qualified to playoffs without major upsets. Karlovarsko eliminated Olympiacos!

After Alterna SPVB Poitiers from France and Germany’s VfB Friedrichshafen, both qualified at Golden Set, other five teams progressed to next stage of 2025/26 CEV Cup.
After a straight sets win at home in first leg, The Netherlands’ Orion Stars Doetinchem did the same in Romania, celebrating a 0-3 (31:33, 23:25, 23:25) hard-fought win over the hosts CSM Corona Brasov. Absolutely better in key moments of the game, and despite the rivals’ 11 winning blocks (compared to their 3), the winners were led in score by Wouter Ter Maat and Péter Boldizsár, who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively (70% in attack with 2 aces and 1 block for the latter).
Ticket for playoffs also for Türkyie’s Fenerbahçe Medicana who, after a four sets win in Slovenia, trampled over OK Alpacem Kanal in front of their home fans with a clean 3-0 (25:19, 25:21, 25:18), dictating their rules from start to finish with 14 points each from Adis Lagumdzija and Earvin Ngapeth, well supported by Luka Marttila, also in double digit with 11.
After an unexpected four-sets-victory in Greece in first leg, Czech Republic’s ČEZ Karlovarsko needed two sets to earn their qualification and they did it after trailing 1-2 against Olympiacos Piraeus, but then winning the game at tie break, 3-2 (17:25, 25:21, 24:26, 25:17, 15:9) after 122 minutes of play.
Marko Sedlacek made his debut with the losing side after parting ways with Italian club Cuneo, and left the court with 18 points through 50% in attack, 2 aces and 2 blocks, while his teammate Aleksandar Atanasijevic top-scored the game with 20, but they weren’t enough to reverse the situation. Victor Rodriguez led Karlovarsko with 19 points through 63% in attack and 3 winning blocks.
Predictions respected in last two games of the day, with a straight sets win of Belgium’s Greenyard Maaseik over ON Hotels Alanya Bld, 3-0 (25:18, 26:24, 25:20), following a four sets win in Türkiye in first leg, despite a good performance from Steven Marshall (top scorer of the match with 14 points through 58% in attack and 3 blocks), and a four sets home win for Italy’s Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza who, thanks to a four sets win in Spain, needed just two sets against Río Duero Soria. They did it and, after dropping third sets, they were able to close the game 3-1 (25:20, 25:20, 27:29, 25:19) with a large turnover and 13 points each from a very good Henri Leon (all in attack, through 62%) and Lukas Bergmann.
Tomorrow Polish powerhouse JSW Jastrzebski Wegiel will welcome Akaa Volley from Finland in last game of 1/8 Finals.
