Poland: Jastrzębski Węgiel down Chełm at tie break in advance of Round 20

Round 20 of 2025/26 Plusliga started today with the advance of Round 20 between newcomers InPost ChKS Chełm and most quoted JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel, this season only at 7th place in the standings, at least prior this game.
The visiting side, in fact, after dominating first two sets also taking a 0-2 lead, suffered Chełm’s comeback, but eventually managed to close a contest with lot of ups and downs in both sides with the score of 2-3 (17:25, 17:25, 25:22, 25:17, 12:15), temporarily reaching 6th place in the standings at +1 from Energa Trefl Gdańsk, who will play on the field of No.9 ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle on Saturday.
Nicolas Szerszeń and Michał Gierżot top-scored the winners with 19 and 18 points, respectively, while setter Benjamin Toniutti earned MVP honors.
Iranian Amirhossein Esfandiar was the most prolific player of the match chipping in 20 points for Chełm.
Round 20 will continue tomorrow with other two games: Ślepsk Malow Suwałki will welcome No.2 PGE Projekt Warszawa while, in the evening, BOGDANKA LUK Lublin will face Barkom Każany Lwów.
