Champions League: playoffs start today – Resovia destroy Roeselare. Trento won a thrilling game in Poland

In first two games of 2025/26 CEV Champions League Playoffs, Poland’s Asseco Resovia Rzeszów and Trentino Itas from Italy celebrated victories.
Resovia delivered a commanding performance defeating Knack Roeselare 3-0 (25:16, 25:20, 25:18), controlling the match from start to finish, securing a strong advantage ahead of the return fixture scheduled for Thursday, March 12.
The winners showed confidence and consistency throughout the game, not allowing the rival to gain momentum or re-open the game.
Resovia proved superior in several key areas of the match. They were more effective in attack, finishing with a 58 percent success rate compared to Roeselare’s 48 percent. The hosts also made a difference from the serve line, scoring six aces to the visitors’ two, while adding eight blocks against Roeselare’s five. In addition, the Polish side limited their own mistakes and maintained control of the game’s rhythm.
Artur Szalpuk led the charge for Resovia with 16 points and was named MVP, finishing with 52% in attack and also contributing with one ace and four blocks.
Karol Butryn added 12 points for the winners, while Yacine Louati tallied 11 through 52% in attack. On the other side on Basil Dermaux was the team’s top scorer with 11 points.
The winner of the two-leg clash will advance to the quarterfinals, where Turkey’s Ziraat Bankkart Ankara awaits.
Meanwhile, Itas Trentino earned a hard-fought 2-3 (11:25, 25:17, 25:27, 25:19, 8:15) victory against PGE Projekt Warszawa.
The Italian powerhouse came out on top after a dramatic five-set battle at Hala Torwar in a result that result gives them a narrow advantage ahead of the return match scheduled for March 11 in Trento.
The visiting side started strongly, dominating the opening set with an aggressive serving display. Warszawa quickly responded to level the match in the second set, and both teams continued to play a tightly contested encounter. With the score tied at 2–2, the visitors proved stronger in the tie-break to seal the win.
Theo Faure led Trentino Itas with 22 points and was named the match MVP, finishing the game with a 53% attack success rate and five aces, while Daniele Lavia, Jordi Ramon and Flavio Gualberto each added 13 points, and Simon Torwie, also in double digit, contributed with 10.
For the hosts, Linus Weber scored 22 points too, with Bartosz Bednorz and Kevin Tillie both adding 15.
The winner of the two-leg series will advance to the quarterfinals to face Bogdanka LUK Lublin.
Tomorrow in last game of first leg, Spain’s Guaguas Las Palmas will welcome Montpellier HSC VB from France.
