Türkiye: Ngapeth parts ways with Fenerbahçe! Here is what happened…

2 min read

Fenerbahçe Medicana confirmed the mutual termination of their contract with Earvin Ngapeth, ending the French star’s brief presence at the Turkish club.

The player, who came to Fenerbahçe in December 2024 and scored more than 300 points, departs before the season’s conclusion following a disappointing campaign for the Istanbul side.
Fenerbahçe fell short of expectations in the SMS Efeler Ligi and were eliminated early in European competition by ACH Volley Ljubljana.
The reason, apparently, is an episode that occurred about a week ago, when the player was filmed smoking a cigarette outside the stadium while his teammates were already warming up before the match against Gebze Belediyespor.
The images sparked outrage among Turkish fans and media, with some even pixelating the image of the two-time Olympic champion holding a cigarette.
Hence, the mutual termination of the contract, formally agreed upon between the parties but still apparently linked to the media outcry generated by the “incident”.

Either way, the 35-year-old has already secured his next move, signing a two-year deal with Tours VB, where he previously played early in his career.
Despite this episode in Turkey, he remains one of volleyball’s most decorated players, with multiple major titles, including two Olympic gold medals in a row, and is expected to continue competing at the highest level ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics.
