VNL 2026 continues in Brasilia and Ottawa: another win for Serbia, Türkiye stun France! Iran and USA ok

After the successes of Ukraine over Cuba and Japan over defending champions Poland, 2026 Volleyball Nations League continues also in Brasilia and Ottawa.

In Brazil, Serbia registered their second three-point win in two matches and climbed to number 10 in the World Ranking after a 3-1 (25:18, 24:26, 25:21, 25:22) victory over VNL rookies Belgium. The southern Europeans made the difference in serving and blocking, led by opposite Veljko Masulovic who recorded 18 points including four aces and three blocks, the same number of points of 18-year-old outside hitter Vuk Kulpinac, who added three aces and two blocks. Belgium outplayed Serbia in offense, with 22-year-old opposite Ferre Reggers the main weapon, firing a match-high 25 points for the western Europeans, all in attack.
On the same Pool, Iran showed a 3-0 (25:23, 25:19, 25:23) shutout of Argentina to celebrate their first victory in the competition. Opposite Ali Haji led the Asians with 22 points to his name including three aces and two blocks, while 21-year-old outside Poriya Khanzadeh added another 19 points, including two aces. 20-year-old outside Fausto Diaz was Argentina’s most prolific player with 12 points including three aces and two blocks.

The day’s opening game in Ottawa ended 3-0 (25:22, 25:15, 25:20) in favor of USA against Germany. Also for the Americans, this was second win in two matches to sit to the top of the standings undefeated with 6 points, edging Brazil, Serbia and Ukraine on set ratios, while Germany are in 14th place. With 19 points to his name including five blocks, USA’s opposite Jake Hanes topped the match chart, while his counterpart Yann Bohme led Germany with 11 points, including three aces.
And, in game that closed the day, Türkiye Turkiye shut out France in third day’s biggest upset, 3-0 (25:23, 27:25, 25:21)!
It was Turkiye’s first win of the season and they stand 11th on 1-1 and 3 points, while France are in 15th place on 1-2 and 2 points.
Turkish opposite Adis Lagumdzija led the charge with 20 points including four blocks and two aces, while 21-year-old outside Gokcen Yuksel added 11. Opposite Stephen Boyer was France’s leading scorer with 16 points, including two blocks and an ace.
