In the first weekly edition of VolleyBar, the very first daily column ever created to bring together all the main news stories of the day, after the usual weekend break, we begin with the European League, where Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, and Israel secured their places in the semifinals. But that’s not all! These four teams have also joined one of the co-hosts, Montenegro, in qualifying for EuroVolley 2028!

Meanwhile, the 2026 Volleyball Nations League is back, and starting on Wednesday matches will be played in Poland, more precisely in Gliwice (where our Ivan will cover the competition directly from the court), in France in Orléans (with reports from Danilo), and in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with coverage from the two creators of VolleyBar: Danijel (the Slovenian one!) and photos by Anya (who has come straight from Kosovo!).
So yes, we will be present at every venue!

In Poland, Norwid Częstochowa have strengthened their libero position for the 2026/27 season. Joining the club from Jasna Góra is Dominik Jaglarski, a player with extensive experience gained in both the 1. Liga and the PlusLiga.
The 29-year-old libero has steadily built his reputation in Polish volleyball over the years. He began his career at MOS Wola Warsaw before representing clubs such as AZS Politechnika Warszawska, BBTS Bielsko-Biała, ONICO Warsaw, VERVA Warsaw ORLEN Paliwa, and Projekt Warsaw. He spent several seasons in the capital, gaining valuable experience at the highest level and winning a silver medal in the Polish Championship.
Over the last three seasons, he played for Lechia Tomaszów Mazowiecki, also serving as team captain last season. In the 2025/26 campaign, he excelled in the 1. Liga rankings, finishing first in digs (294, averaging 2.83 per set) and fifth in reception efficiency with a 57.11% positive reception rate.
“I had been talking with Norwid for quite a while. The vision for the new team and the opportunity to compete in the PlusLiga were the key factors that convinced me to sign the contract,” he said.
He joins Norwid fully aware of his role on the court. The libero often performs work that does not appear on the front pages of statistics, yet remains essential to the functioning of the entire team.
“A silent hero, or the guy who does the dirty work – that’s my position. I accept that I’m not in the spotlight. I try to do my job as well as possible and contribute my piece to the team’s success.”
Asseco Resovia Rzeszów have confirmed middle blocker Dawid Woch, while GKS Katowice have also retained Bartosz Schmidt for another season.
The 35-year-old middle blocker will spend a second season with Katowice. During the 2025/26 campaign, he played a total of 18 matches in the club’s colours. Previously, he represented clubs such as MCKiS Jaworzno, MKS Będzin, and Steam Hemarpol Norwid Częstochowa. During the season that ended with Katowice’s promotion to the PlusLiga.
On the other hand, after three seasons with PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów, middle blocker Łukasz Wiśniewski is leaving the club.
Throughout his career, Wiśniewski has enjoyed numerous successes. He won five Polish Championship titles, four Polish Cups, and three Polish Super Cups. He also earned a silver medal in the Champions League.
“Łukasz is a player with enormous experience, character, and sporting class. Although he has struggled with health problems in recent seasons, we could always count on his professionalism, commitment, and support for the team, both during matches and in everyday training sessions,” said Michał Bąkiewicz, President of Bełchatów.
“For three years he was an important part of our team and leaves behind many good memories. I thank him for every day spent at PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów and wish him, above all, good health and success in his future sporting and personal challenges.”

In Italy, one of the most exciting prospects in South American volleyball will wear the Itas Trentino jersey for the next two seasons. Twenty-four-year-old Brazilian outside hitter Adriano Fernandes Procópio Xavier Cavalcante, known simply as Adriano, arrives from Vôlei Renata, where he played the last five SuperLiga seasons.
The Brazilian international, who has already won six medals in youth and senior competitions, chose Trento for his first experience abroad, attracted by the quality of the yellow-and-blue project and the opportunity to test himself at the highest level in the Italian league.
“I know very well the value of a player like Adriano, whom I saw grow tremendously in Brazil when I was coaching Sada Cruzeiro,” explained Trentino Volley head coach Marcelo Méndez.
“He is a complete outside hitter, effective in every aspect of the game, especially in attack, serving, and reception. He has played many important matches internationally and in the Brazilian league, and he still has huge room for improvement because he is young and can become even more consistent. I am happy to have him available from next season because he can make a truly significant contribution.”
Adriano will become the ninth Brazilian in the more than twenty-year history of Trentino Volley, following Heller, Nascimento, Riad, Raphael, Vissotto, Eder Carbonera, Lucarelli, and Flavio. He will wear jersey number 18.
Meanwhile, Allianz Milano have confirmed outside hitter Francesco Recine, while their cousins from Vero Volley Monza have signed middle blocker Victorio Ceban after five seasons in Serie A2, the latest with Emma Villas Codyeco Lupi Siena.

In France, Saint-Nazaire are pleased to announce the promotion of their homegrown player Yanis Marion to the professional squad for the 2026/27 season. A 1.95 m outside hitter, he has successfully progressed through every stage of his development with the club. Currently attending a training camp with the France U18 national team, he will continue his education within the club’s academy while also joining the professional group.
This promotion rewards his performances, commitment, and attachment to the club’s values.
“Seeing a player developed within our academy join the professional squad is a source of great pride for the entire club. It reflects the quality of the work carried out by our coaches and the dedication of our young talents,” said club general manager Gilles Gosselin.
Meanwhile, Narbonne announced the arrival of Tim Held. The 28-year-old Italian outside hitter joins the club from Sonepar Padova. During his career, he has also represented Gioiella Prisma Taranto and the prestigious Sir Safety Susa Vim Perugia, one of the most successful and respected clubs in European volleyball. He is currently among the 30 players pre-selected for the Italian national team, and he will also compete at the Mediterranean Games in early September with the Italian national team.

In Japan, Toray Arrows have officially announced the arrival of three new players: Italian middle blocker Edoardo Caneschi, who played for Allianz Milano last season; Canadian outside hitter Skyler Varga, from Long Beach State University in the United States; and American opposite hitter Gabi Garcia, from Itas Trentino.
