Welcome, July!
And welcome to Episode 33 of VolleyBar, the first-ever daily volleyball roundup bringing you the dayâs biggest volleyball stories (and one that, just like so many of our Italian colleagues, has apparently inspired a fair amount of copy-and-paste âjournalismââincluding translated versions of international press releases).
Todayâs top stories begin with the CEV Board of Administration, which confirmed on Tuesday the five wildcard entries for the 2027 CEV Champions League.
Meanwhile, Franceâs top menâs volleyball league is entering a new era. After three seasons as the Marmara SpikeLigue, the championship has unveiled a new identity and, for the next three seasons, will officially be known as Alterna Volstar.
In Italy, Alessandro Fanizza will remain the setter of Cisterna Volley for the 2026/27 SuperLega Credem Banca season.
And speaking of setters, newcomers Prata di Pordenone has welcomed Sebastiano Marsili, who arrives after eleven consecutive seasons playing across Italyâs A2, A3 and SuperLega championships.
âPrata has always been a club Iâve admired. When Sporting Director Sturam called me, it became the quickest negotiation of my career,â he said.
âThey had the best crowd in A2, and Iâm sure theyâll have one of the best atmospheres in SuperLega as well.â
Moving to TĂźrkiye, Halkbank Ankara has officially announced the signing of Cuban opposite hitter Alejandro RodrĂguez Fuentes as part of its squad for the upcoming season, from China’s Tianjin Food Group.
Meanwhile, Olympiacos has confirmed the signing of Helder Spencer, the left-handed middle blocker from Cape Verde.
The 2.00 m middle blocker joins the Greek champions after an outstanding season with Guaguas Las Palmas in Spain, where he helped the club win the national title while scoring 219 points: 148 in attack (66% success rate, 58% efficiency), 20 aces, and 51 blocks across 76 sets. He also played a key role in Guaguasâ impressive run to the CEV Champions League quarterfinals, delivering a series of standout performances throughout the campaign.
And, to close the episode, Finland joined Netherlands in 2026 CEV European League Final!
