Finland crowned 2026 European League champions! The Netherlands defeated again in four sets in Den Haag

After a four sets home win in Nokia, Finland completed a powerful finish in their 2026 CEV European League campaign recording 10 wins in as many matches, closing the competition with a great 1-3 (15:25, 25:20, 18:25, 21:25) victory over the Netherlands in second leg match of the grand finale.
This success is their second straight triumph in the tournent, as last year they had taken the European Golden League title as well!

The Netherlands, who needed a victory to secure a decisive Golden Set, has been defeated by Finnland for the first time since 2013 only a few days ago on home soil, and today they did it again, making the difference in attacks, capitalising also on the many errors made by the Dutch team, especially in the third and fourth sets.
The success is especially important for Team Finland as the players coached by Olli Kunnari will soon contest this year’s EuroVolley at home in Tampere – in a Pool where the Netherlands start too!
Luka Marttila was again the top scorer for Finland recording 22 points through 65% in attack and 2 aces and was awarded as MVP of both finals, well supported by Veikka Lindqvist who added 18 (56% in attack, 3 blocks and 1 ace), Severi Savonsalmi and Niko Suhikonen, also in double digits with 11 each.
Sil Meijs topped all scorers leaving the court with 25 points (62% in attack and 1 ace) for The Netherlands.

Recall that the top four teams from this year’s European League have also all qualified for the CEV EuroVolley 2028 Men: the finalists Finland and The Netherlands, together with Denmark and Israel.
