Ukraine made a strong statement ahead of the final week of 2026 Volleyball Nations League preliminary round, cruising to a convincing 3-0 victory (25:17, 29:27, 25:17) over Slovenia in a friendly match in Ljubljana.
The result should be taken with a degree of caution, however, as Slovenia head coach Fabio Soli rested several regular starters and fielded an experimental lineup.
Either way, Ukraine produced a high quality performance, with Oleg Plotnytskyi leading the way through his outstanding serving and the team’s solid blocking.
The match was the second friendly between the two sides, as Slovenia had won the first encounter 3-1 on July 7.
The final week of the preliminary phase will also be crucial for several teams icluding Slovenia and Ukraine, both in taking on Iran, Serbia, Türkiye and Germany.
Meanwhile in Olsztyn, Poland down Germany in four sets (25:17, 25:16, 25:15, 22:25).
Poland will compete in Chicago, USA, together with Bulgaria, USA, France, Brazil and China.
