Alessandro Michieletto back for EuroVolley2026 as Italy confirm 14-man squad

Alessandro Michieletto is in for EuroVolley 2026.
One of Italy’s biggest stars made it into the final squad of 14 volleyball players, selected by head coach Ferdinando De Giorgi for the European Championship.

The Italian Federation officially announced the squad two days before their first match in the tournament, and Michieletto’s presence is among the most important news for Italy, after the outside hitter suffered an injury at the beginning of the year and went through a recovery period, missing half of the club season and the entire summer with the national team.
A back injury limited his involvement from January, while a foot issue suffered in July raised fresh concerns over whether he would recover in time for the European Championship.
Itas Trentino also confirmed that the player has completed his rehabilitation and is ready to make a gradual return to competitive action after nearly seven months away from the court. His comeback gives Italy an important attacking option ahead of the biggest tournaments of the international season.

Middle Blockers: Gianluca Galassi, Giovanni Sanguinetti, Pardo Mati
Outside Hitters: Mattia Bottolo, Daniele Lavia, Alessandro Michieletto, Francesco Sani, Luca Porro
Opposite Hitters: Kamil Rychlicki, Yuri Romano
Liberos: Fabio Balaso, Gabriele Laurenzano

Italy begins its participation in EuroVolley 2026 on Thursday, September 10, at 9:05 PM against Sweden. The match will be played outdoors at ‘Piazza del Plebiscito’ in Naples.
The Azzurri are hosts for their matches in the tournament, and if they reach the final phase, they will have the opportunity to pursue the European title entirely in front of their home crowd.
Italy will compete in Pool A, with group-stage matches scheduled in Naples and Modena. The knockout rounds will continue in Turin and Sofia, while Milan will host the semi-finals and finals on September 25 and 26.
