Turkey name EuroVolley squad as Lagumdžija brothers loom as potential Bulgaria opponents

Turkey have announced their final squad for the 2026 Men’s European Volleyball Championship, which gets underway on September 9, and their campaign will be followed particularly closely also in Bulgaria.
The reason is the tournament format: Bulgaria will compete in Pool B, while Turkey are part of Pool D, and the two groups are directly connected in the Round of 16 bracket in Sofia.
The pairings are B1–D4, D2–B3, D1–B4 and B2–D3, meaning that Bulgaria’s final position in Pool B will determine which team from Pool D they could face in the first knockout round.

Turkey will play their entire pool phase in Cluj-Napoca, where they face a demanding group featuring Olympic champions France, Germany, hosts Romania, Switzerland and Latvia. With four teams advancing to the knockout stage.
The Turkish roster also features two familiar names: Adis Lagumdžija and his brother Mirza. Adis is expected to be one of Turkey’s main attacking options as an opposite hitter, while Mirza provides an option on the outside.
Kaan Gürbüz completes the opposite-hitter department.
At setter, Turkey will rely on Murat Yenipazar and Hilmi Şahin. The middle-blocking options are Ahmet Tümer, Mert Matić, Ahmet Samet Baltacı and Yunus Emre Tayaz, while Berkay Bayraktar and Abdulsamet Yalçın are the two liberos.

Turkey will open their EuroVolley campaign on September 10 against Germany in what could prove to be one of the decisive matches of the pool phase. They will then face France on September 12, Switzerland on September 13, hosts Romania on September 14 and Latvia on September 16.
The opening two matches against Germany and France could be particularly important in determining Turkey’s position in the pool — and, consequently, their potential opponent in Sofia.
