Italy: Parma to host the 31st Del Monte® Supercoppa

Parma will host the 31st edition of the Del Monte® Supercoppa SuperLega, with the PalaRaschi set to stage the opening major event of the new Italian league season on November 14 and 15.

The two-day event will bring together four of the leading teams in Italian men’s volleyball: reigning Italian champions Sir Susa Scai Perugia, Itas Trentino, Coppa Italia winners Rana Verona and Cucine Lube Civitanova, the runners-up in the Scudetto playoffs.
The event is organised by Lega Pallavolo Serie A in cooperation with the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Municipality of Parma, the Emilia-Romagna FIPAV Regional Committee and the Parma FIPAV Local Committee.

The return of top-level volleyball to Parma also carries considerable historical significance.
The PalaRaschi was once the home of Santal Parma, one of the most successful clubs in the history of Italian volleyball. The Parma side won eight Italian championships, five Coppa Italia titles and 11 international trophies, including three Cup Winners’ Cups, two CEV Cups, two European Super Cups, one Club World Championship and two European Champions’ Cups.
The venue also hosted part of the unusual 1986/87 Coppa Italia, which was staged across several cities along the Via Emilia. Parma joined Modena and Bologna as one of the host cities, with Santal ultimately winning the trophy.
Almost four decades later, the PalaRaschi will once again welcome some of the biggest names in Italian club volleyball.
The semifinals will see Sir Susa Scai Perugia face Itas Trentino, while Rana Verona will meet Cucine Lube Civitanova in the other matchup. Perugia enter the competition as reigning SuperLega and Supercoppa champions, while Verona qualified as Coppa Italia winners. Lube reached the Supercoppa after finishing as Scudetto playoff runners-up.

For Parma, it is a return to the spotlight of Italian volleyball — and an opportunity to reconnect a city with a remarkable sporting heritage to the modern SuperLega.
