Adrian Aciobăniței returns to France as Poitiers strengthen their squad

Poitiers have added another experienced international to their roster for the 2026/27 season, announcing the signing of Romanian outside hitter Adrian Aciobăniței.

The 29-year-old returns to France after already making his mark in the country’s top division, having previously played for AS Cannes and Chaumont VB 52. His French experience includes a national championship title with Cannes in 2020/21, while with Chaumont he added the French Super Cup and French Cup to his honours list. Before and after his time in France, he also played in Germany, Poland, Turkey and Romania, building a career that has taken him through several of Europe’s major volleyball leagues.

His first professional steps came in Romania with Tomis Constanța, where he won the Romanian Championship and Romanian Cup before moving abroad.
He then spent time with VfB Friedrichshafen and United Volleys RheinMain in Germany, winning the German Cup and Super Cup with Friedrichshafen, before moving to Cannes in 2021. His subsequent spell with Chaumont brought further domestic silverware before he continued his career in Poland and Turkey, and later returned to Romania.
He has also been a regular part of the Romanian national team for almost a decade. He represented Romania at the 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2026 editions of the European Championship, as well as in the European League competitions.

The most significant chapters of that international career have come in recent editions of EuroVolley.
In 2023, Romania produced one of the stories of the tournament, reaching the quarterfinals for the first time since 1985. Aciobăniței played a key role in the dramatic 3-2 win over Croatia in the Round of 16, scoring 16 points as Romania booked its place among Europe’s top eight.
Romania repeated that achievement at EuroVolley 2026, reaching the quarterfinals for a second consecutive edition. After finishing the pool phase with three wins, including a memorable 3-2 victory over reigning Olympic champions France, Romania swept Ukraine 3-0 in the Round of 16 before once again facing France in the last eight.
The French side won the rematch 3-0 in Sofia, ending Romania’s run at the tournament.

Now Aciobăniței is back in France, this time wearing the colours of Poitiers. His arrival gives the team a player with international experience, a long résumé across European leagues and, importantly, previous knowledge of French volleyball.
For Poitiers, it is another addition to a squad looking to make its mark in the 2026/27 season.
For Aciobăniței, it is a return to a country where he has already lifted trophies — and the beginning of another chapter in a career that has already taken him across much of European volleyball.
