Knack Roeselare lifted the Belgian Supercup for the 12th time in club history on Sunday, defeating Menen 3–0 (25:17, 26:24, 25:17) in the final of the revamped competition.
Coached by Matthijs Verhanneman, Roeselare had already secured their place in the final with a 2–0 victory over Maaseik in the morning semi-final before producing another convincing performance to claim the first silverware of the season.
Italian opposite Tommaso Stefani was the standout performer in the final, finishing as the match’s leading scorer with 18 points and an impressive 65% success rate in attack. His contribution helped Roeselare maintain control for much of the match, although Menen came agonisingly close to forcing a different outcome in the second set.
Menen, coached by Frenchman Julien Lemay, had reached the final after a 2–1 semi-final win over Achel. They appeared well placed to level the match after building leads of 16:10, 22:18 and 24:21 in the second set. However, Roeselare produced a decisive five-point run to turn the set around, eventually sealing it 26–24 on a missed attack by Yannick Bak. Menen were unable to recover and lost the third set 25–17.
Despite the defeat, French libero Tom Cannessant delivered a solid performance in reception, recording 21 receptions with 81% rated positive and 67% perfect, without a single reception error.
Neither Cannessant nor Lemay, who leads the team from the sidelines, could celebrate a Supercup triumph, but Menen will now turn their attention to the Belgian league, the Belgian Cup and the CEV Cup.
The league campaign begins on October 16, with Menen immediately facing Roeselare again — an opportunity to respond against the same opponents who denied them the first trophy of the season.
