Bulgaria: Adam Bartos and Neftochimic Burgas part ways just three months after his arrival

3 min read

Neftochimic 2010 Burgas and Adam Bartos have brought their brief collaboration to an end, just days before the start of the new Bulgarian men’s volleyball championship. The club announced that the contract with the 34-year-old Czech outside hitter had been terminated by mutual agreement, closing a chapter that began with considerable expectations in mid-July.

He was officially presented as Neftochimic’s seventh summer signing on July 15 following setters Vladimir Stankov and Konstantin Nechev, middle blocker Dimitar Chavdarov, libero Konstantin Chipev, Serbian outside hitter Stefan Skakich and versatile attacker Tsvetelin Tsvetanov.
His arrival was part of the club’s preparations for the new WINBET Super Volley season, with the experienced Czech expected to strengthen the team’s options on the outside.
Less than three months later, however, the two parties have decided to go their separate ways.
The separation comes after a pre-season in which Bartos appeared to be part of head coach Ivan Stanev’s plans. He trained with the team and featured in Neftochimic’s victories over CSKA and Beroe at the Stara Zagora Cup tournament in early October. Those performances suggested that he could play a role in the team’s campaign, but his position subsequently changed.
In the tournament’s final match against Serbian side Vojvodina, Bartos lost his place in the starting line-up to Dimitar Vasilev. After the competition, Stanev explained that the Czech outside hitter had experienced minor leg problems following physical overexertion. The issue offered a possible explanation for his reduced involvement, although neither the player nor the club has publicly identified it as the reason for the eventual termination of his contract.

Bartos was also included in Neftochimic’s squad for the Bulgarian Supercup in Sofia. In the final against Levski Sofia, which Burgas lost 3–1 (25:16, 25:22, 13:25, 25:22), he did not start the match but entered as a substitute. Two days later, the club announced the separation.
Neftochimic thanked the Czech player for his cooperation and wished him good health and success in the future. No further details were provided regarding the decision, leaving the precise circumstances of the departure undisclosed.

Neftochimic are scheduled to begin their league campaign on October 22 with an away fixture against Deia Sport, in a Burgas derby that will open their new championship season.
For Bartos, meanwhile, the next step remains unknown. His spell in Bulgaria has ended almost as quickly as it began, but without a public explanation of the circumstances, it would be premature to draw conclusions about the reasons behind the split.
In professional volleyball, pre-season plans can change rapidly as coaches assess physical condition, tactical balance and the needs of the squad. In this case, the only confirmed fact is that the partnership between Neftochimic and Bartos has ended by mutual agreement. The questions surrounding the decision remain unanswered.
