The third round of 2026/27 TAURON Liga continued on Thursday with two important results at opposite ends of the early-season picture.
ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle finally opened their league account with a straight-sets victory away at Energa Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, 0-3 (17:25, 20:25, 23:25), while Asseco Resovia Rzeszów recovered from losing the opening set to beat Energa Trefl Gdańsk 3-1 (22:25, 25:20, 25:20, 25:14) in front of their home supporters.
ZAKSA travelled to Olsztyn after a difficult opening schedule that had seen them face both the reigning champions and last season’s runners-up. They arrived without head coach Andrea Giani, who was unable to attend because of health problems, with assistant coach Michał Chadała taking charge. The visitors were also missing middle blocker Szymon Jakubiszak, but neither absence prevented them from producing a convincing performance.
The first set remained balanced until 9–8, when ZAKSA began to take control. Olsztyn struggled with attacking errors, while the visitors made effective use of their block and serving pressure. The gap gradually widened, and Kędzierzyn-Koźle comfortably closed the set 25–17.
The second followed a similar pattern. After an even opening, ZAKSA again established an advantage through stronger play at the net and more effective serving. Olsztyn attempted to fight back, but the visitors maintained their composure to take the set 25–20. The home side also suffered a setback when middle blocker Karol Urbanowicz had to leave the court with an injury.
The hosts made their strongest push in the third set. Two consecutive aces from Karol Borkowski helped Olsztyn race to a 4–0 lead, and the home side managed to stay ahead through the first half of the set. ZAKSA gradually worked their way back, with Kamil Kosiba contributing from the service line and Rafał Szymura helping to restore balance. At 15–15, the visitors were back on level terms, and a crucial block gave them the lead shortly afterwards. Olsztyn briefly turned the score around, but Remigiusz Kapica proved decisive in the closing exchanges. ZAKSA eventually prevailed 25–23 to complete their first league victory of the campaign.
Kapica was the outstanding performer, finishing with 24 points to his name, including 21 successful attacks and two aces, and deservedly receiving the MVP award. Moritz Karlitzek led Olsztyn with 14 points, while Rafał Szymura contributed 10 for the winners. ZAKSA also held a clear advantage in attacking points, 45–35, while Olsztyn recorded five aces to the visitors’ three. It was a particularly valuable result for a team that had faced such a demanding start to the season.
In Rzeszów, Asseco Resovia had to overcome a different kind of challenge. Energa Trefl Gdańsk arrived looking for their first points after losing their opening two matches, and the visitors made a promising start. Gdańsk put pressure on Resovia’s reception and maintained their advantage throughout much of the opening set. Even when the hosts reduced the deficit late on, the visitors held their nerve to take it 25–22.
The response from Gheorghe Cretu’s team was immediate. Resovia raised their level in the second set, building a 15–9 advantage and preventing Gdańsk from finding a way back into the contest. The hosts continued to dominate the exchanges in the third, taking an early 7–3 lead and extending it with the help of a service ace from setter Marcin Janusz. Gdańsk attempted to close the gap, but Resovia maintained control and moved ahead 2–1 with a 25–20 win.
The fourth set proved even more one-sided. The decisive moment came around 13–10, when Resovia produced a four-point run to establish a commanding advantage. Gdańsk struggled to respond as the home side took control in every phase of the game. Karol Butryn eventually brought the match to an end with a successful attack, sealing a 25–14 set and a 3–1 victory.
Klemen Čebulj was named MVP with 17 points to his name through 55% in attack, 3 blocks and 2 aces, whose performance improved significantly after the opening set. Karol Butryn added 18. The result gave the Rzeszów side its second victory in three matches and brought its points tally to six, moving it into fourth place at the time. Trefl, meanwhile, remained without a point after three consecutive defeats, leaving the Gdańsk team at the bottom of the standings.
The two results offered an important boost to ZAKSA and Resovia as the season progresses. For Kędzierzyn-Koźle, the victory in Olsztyn could mark a turning point after a demanding start. Resovia, meanwhile, demonstrated the ability to recover from an early setback and finish strongly. Trefl and Olsztyn will both be looking to respond in the next round, with the season still young but the need to collect points already becoming increasingly important.
Round 3 will continue tomorrow with the game between Ślepsk Malow Suwałki and NEONET Norwid Częstochowa.
