The fifth round of the 2026/27 SMS Grup Efeler Ligi brought a series of compelling encounters on Saturday, with three matches going the distance and several teams strengthening their position in the standings. Ziraat Bankkart and Halkbank secured convincing straight-set victories, while Galatasaray Madeş Mobilya and Fenerbahçe Medicana claimed valuable wins against İstanbul Gençlik Spor and Gebze Belediyesi Spor, respectively.

Ziraat Bankkart continued their dominant start to the campaign, defeating İBB Spor Kulübü 3–0 (25:20, 25:17, 25:14) in Ankara. The reigning powerhouse controlled the match from the outset, completing the victory in just 73 minutes. Nimir Abdelaziz, Trevor Clevenot, Vahit Emre Savaş, Efe Bayram and Ahmet Tümer featured in the starting lineup as the team secured another important result. The victory marked Ziraat’s sixth consecutive win, keeping them unbeaten and firmly established among the championship favourites.

Halkbank also delivered a solid performance on the road, sweeping Sungurlu Belediyespor 3–0 (25:17, 25:23, 25:21). The Ankara side needed 92 minutes to complete the victory, with Matey Kazıyski, Sam Deroo, Volkan Done and Ertuğrul Gazi Metin among the players contributing to the successful outing. Sungurlu managed to remain competitive in the second and third sets, but Halkbank ultimately maintained control and collected three points.

Galatasaray Madeş Mobilya produced a comeback against İstanbul Gençlik Spor, winning 3–1 (18:25, 25:15, 28:26, 25:23). After dropping the opening set, the visitors responded emphatically before edging a closely contested third set. They then completed the victory in the fourth, with Can Koç leading Galatasaray’s scoring with 21 points. Stephen Maar added 19, while Efe Mandıracı contributed 14, helping the team secure another valuable three points.

One of the day’s most dramatic encounters took place in İzmir, where Altekma overcame Akedaş Onikişubat Belediye Spor 3–2 (17:25, 27:25, 19/25, 25:22, 15:13). The match lasted 154 minutes, with both teams trading momentum throughout. Altekma refused to surrender after falling behind twice in the match, eventually taking control in the decisive set to complete a hard-fought home victory.

Gaziantep Gençlik Spor also celebrated a five-set triumph, defeating ON Hotels Alanya Belediyespor 3–2 (25:18, 25:23, 22:25, 21:25, 15:10).
The hosts started strongly, taking the first two sets, but Alanya fought back to level the match. Gaziantep regained its composure in the tie-break, winning 15–10 after 137 minutes of play.

Spor Toto secured another dramatic away victory, defeating Sultanbeyli Belediyespor 3–2 (25:21, 21:25, 18:25, 25:20, 15:13). Sultanbeyli recovered from losing the opening set to move ahead 2–1, but Spor Toto responded by taking the fourth and then edged the decisive set in a tense finish. The encounter lasted 126 minutes, with the visitors leaving Istanbul with two valuable points.

The headline result of the evening came at the Burhan Felek Vestel Volleyball Hall, where Fenerbahçe Medicana defeated Gebze Belediyesi Spor 3–1 (25:21, 24:26, 25:23, 25:18). Gebze had entered the match with a perfect record after winning their first four league fixtures, but Fenerbahçe delivered a strong performance to hand them their first defeat of the season. The hosts took the opening set, were pushed back by Gebze in the second, and then regained control to win the third and fourth sets. The result represents a significant boost for Fenerbahçe as the race near the top of the Efeler Ligi begins to intensify.

With Ziraat Bankkart continuing their unbeaten run and Gebze now suffering their first setback, the standings are beginning to take shape. Halkbank remain among the leading contenders, while Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe are gaining momentum. Meanwhile, the three five-set victories underline the competitive depth of the Turkish championship, where even teams outside the top positions are proving capable of pushing their opponents to the limit.
