After the advance played yesterday, in which Tourcoing defeated Sète in straight sets, Round 5 of 2026/27 Alterna Volstar continued today with other two games with two important results, as Nice Volley-Ball ended Chaumont’s perfect start to the championship and Poitiers claimed a comprehensive 3–0 win against Paris Volley.
At the Palmeira-Giamarchi arena, Nice produced a strong performance to overcome Chaumont 3–1 (23:25, 25:23, 25:22, 36:34), bringing an end to the visitors’ unbeaten league run. The match was particularly memorable for its extraordinary fourth set, which stretched to 70 points before Nice finally secured the victory.
Chaumont had arrived on the Côte d’Azur with four wins from four league matches and 11 points, sitting among the early leaders, having also shown its resilience in the previous round, recovering from a two-set deficit to defeat Royan 3–2. Nice, meanwhile, had been particularly solid at home, winning both of its previous league matches at Palmeira without dropping a set.
The opening set went Chaumont’s way, 25–23, but Nice responded immediately, taking the second by the same score. The home side then moved ahead with a 25–22 victory in the third, putting the pressure on the previously dominant visitors.
The fourth set became an unforgettable battle of nerve. With both teams refusing to surrender, the score kept climbing well beyond the usual 25-point threshold. Nice eventually prevailed 36–34, completing a valuable victory and handing Chaumont its first league defeat of the season. The result also gives the Eagles a significant boost as they continue their pursuit of a place among the championship’s leading teams.
Kévin Kobrine was almost unstoppable leading the winners with 29 points to his name through 66% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block, while MVP Fausto Diaz added 24 with the same percentage in attack, 3 aces and 3 blocks.
On the other side of the net, Veikka Lindqvist left the court with 25 points including 1 block and 63% in attack, and Jacob Pasteur added 17. Chaumont, however, paid the bad day of former Nice player Shay Liberman, great protagonist of this season start. Today for him only 7 points, 1 ace and 26% in attack.
In Poitiers, Alterna SPVB delivered a more straightforward performance, sweeping Paris Volley 3–0 (25:17, 25:23, 25:18). The home side controlled the opening set and maintained its advantage throughout the match, despite a closer second set in which Paris attempted to stay in contention.
Poitiers ultimately closed the match in three sets, securing an important result after a challenging opening stretch. The victory is particularly encouraging for the club, which had already demonstrated its potential with a 3–1 away win in Narbonne in the previous round.
Paris, on the other hand, suffered another setback after losing 3–0 to Cannes on October 30. The capital side had started the season with a convincing victory over Saint-Nazaire and had also beaten Montpellier, but consistency remains a challenge as the competition progresses.
Dusan Nikolic led the winners with 19 points to his name, 4 of his team’s 6 aces, 1 block and 52% in attack, while libero Franco Massimino earned MVP honors.
Friday’s results further tighten the early standings. Nice move closer to the leading group, while Poitiers gain valuable ground in the middle of the table. Chaumont’s defeat does not erase the strong start made by the Haute-Marne club, but it confirms that the race at the top of Alterna Volstar is already becoming increasingly competitive.
With the fifth round closing on Saturday, the championship remains wide open, and every point is beginning to carry greater importance.
